What education qualifications should you seek in a real estate assistant?

Prospective assistants may - or may not - have prior real estate education.

The range of experience and education for a real estate assistant is no small factor in the decision-making process of choosing an assistant.

An assistant doesn’t need a degree to do their job well, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t have some professional education. Taking a real estate principles course, attending a seminar, or receiving previous on-the-job training are all good ways for an assistant to stand out as an adequately educated applicant.

Here are some application or interview questions to ask prospective assistants:

  • Do you have any certifications or training in office programs?
  • Have you ever taken traditional, college courses in real estate?
  • Have you ever taken nontraditional, continuing education courses in real estate?
  • Have you ever received training in the real estate industry during previous employment?

Consider the education of an assistant applicant, but remember that just because they may not have traditional or even any previous education in the real estate industry doesn’t have to disqualify an applicant.
